The reason why.

A while back my buddy Marty, did me a favour. Over a beer or four, with Marty asking nicely, I agreed to do a drawing of his dog Gus. He's a monster of a dog, but a total softy. Plus, I wanted to do something nice for helping me out.

That was back in late July. I didn't end up finishing the drawing and giving it to Martin until Oct. 11th.

This is one of many reasons I hate doing any sort of commission work. It takes me forever and knowing it's taking me soo long, makes things worse. Especially when it's a portrait of some sort. It's not that I hate doing the work. I just want it to look right and that's the hard part. People know what their pets, baby, parents, whatever, look like better than I do. Trying to get something down on paper that will satisfy them and myself, drives me nuts. Which leads to mistakes. Not little tiny one's that are easy to fix. Big, bad one's that take forever to blend out.

So, you can ask me to draw your (enter family member or pet here). Chances are, 99.9999 per cent of the time, I'm going to say no! Sorry.

Well, after all that rambling, here's Gus. Brush pen, microns, ink wash, white ink on bristol.
